The annual map collections of MapBiomas Ecuador comprise a historical series covering the entire Ecuadorian territory (including the Galápagos Archipelago). MapBiomas Ecuador Collection 2.0 contains annual data for the period 1985-2023.
The goal is to update it each year with a new collection to add information from recent years and incorporate improvements in classifications.

The most recent collection of MapBiomas Ecuador can be explored and queried directly on the MapBiomas land cover and use platform (https://plataforma.ecuador.mapbiomas.org).https://plataforma.ecuador.mapbiomas.org).

There are two available options for downloading the maps in GeoTiff format:

If you want to download the map for another year, simply replace the year in the link before pasting it into your browser. For example, to get the map for 1985, it would be:

Download by territorial limits (provinces, cantons, parishes, basins, protected areas, indigenous territories, among others).
For this option, you should use Google Earth Engine. It's necessary to have a free account at: https://earthengine.google.com/.

Important:
When using MapBiomas Ecuador data, please consider:
- To calculate the area, it's necessary to use an appropriate metric projection (more information in the Frequently Asked Questions section)..
- All data is in GeoTiff format and compressed using LZW.
- The annual maps are consolidated into a single file with multiple layers or bands, where each layer represents a year in the historical series (the first layer corresponds to the first year of the series, i.e., 1985).
- The international boundaries used by MapBiomas Ecuador are based on CONALI (2024), adapted by Ecociencia, and may differ from other files.
